Tilt-Up MET Masts

With 200 installations over the last 4 years, we believe we are the the number 1 UK met mast installer. We have streamlined our operations to provide fast and efficient Met mast installations anywhere in the UK. We are experienced at working on met masts from various manufactures including Nexgen, Chillwind, NRG, ranging in size from 10 to 90. Nexgen is our preferred manufacturer who has developed a series of met masts that are thoughtfully engineered to be both easy to transport and install whilst being able to withstand the harshest conditions. The design philosophy of keeping all components within a size and weight that can be easily manoeuvred by hand ensures that installation logistics and costs are kept to a minimum. We are now installing the new 90m H1 mast.

Tilt-Up Met mast services:-

Site suitability assessment – Some sites can offer problems with access issues and space limitations or extreme terrain unsuitable for mast assembly or ground anchors. We can send an experienced crew member to site to assess conditions and provide a report to help with judging site suitability and potential extra costs. 

Installation - Our experienced crews are used to operating in all weathers and terrain and are fully qualified to operate ATV and 4x4. Many years experience ensures the installation will progress quickly and safely, typically taking 1-3 days depending on the difficulty of the site. The installation is documented in a comprehensive installation report.

Maintenance - Guyed masts should be inspected regularly. Recommended every 6 months. We can offer basic mast, guy and fixings inspection and adjustment or complete refurbishment & replacement of guys and instruments.

Decommissioning - with a full decommissioning report where required.  We can store the mast or deliver it to the customer.

Handling Bigger Met Masts

We can now offer installation of masts up to 90m. These larger masts have led us to invest in specialized equipment for handling and transport. Our Custom built Mercedes 7.5 Ton  4 x 4  Crew Truck, and 7m trailer, enable us to transport these heavy masts to and from difficult sites, and deliver them wherever you need them to go.

Lifting Equipment

To maintain the ability to carry out installations on sites where heavy transport is not available, we commissioned a custom designed Tirak winch, powered by a lightweight, remote controlled 3-phase generator. This allows us to transport our toolkit with a minimum of road haulage costs, and facilitates the use of ATV’s to reach remote sites with poor access.

Using sheaves, we are able to apply lifting loads to the gin-pole head of up to 7 Tons with the Tirak winch. It has 300m of wire rope on an autospooling drum.

The Tirak weighs 200 kg, and has a wheeled cage to protect it and facilitate movement. We have built a wheeled sledge to transport the winch behind an ATV for difficult access sites.

New Heavy Duty Gin-Pole                

Following numerous requests for us to handle heavier ‘bolt together’ masts, as supplied by Chillwind and others, we have invested in our own Heavy duty Gin-pole to enable us to raise and lower them safely. Our Gin-pole is comprised of 3m sections, and can extend to 18m in length for masts up to 90m in height. A specially designed base section, and Gin-pole head, have been engineered to fit a variety of mast designs.

In conjunction with our custom made Tirak winch, powered by remote controlled generator, we are able to make quick work of raising and lowering masts up to 90m

Mast design and materials

We have always extolled the virtue of keeping component size and weight to within the limit of manual handling capability. The Nexgen H1 mast achieves this using carefully selected steel profiles, and custom designed fixings. The result is a mast that can be quickly manoevered, assembled, and loaded by hand when required.  The alternative, approach adopted by others, to use standard water-pipe stock sizes, and bolt together flanges, results in a much heavier mast. It does not make the mast any stronger. Recent investigations into survival characteristics of the available mast designs bears this out.

   Reducing the need for mechanical handling has many benefits :

  • Lower impact on the land
